Tom Hensley –
I wish that there was a "very good" rating on the rating scale as I feel that this scope is better than "Good".
I own both the Ares BTR Gen 2 as listed here and also the Cronus BTR 4.5-29 as well. I have the Cronus on my Vudoo that I shoot NRL22 / PRS Rimfire competition with and I think that it is a fantastic scope (best bang for the buck in that mid-upper echelon class of scopes). Due to my experience with the Cronus, I purchased the Ares to put on my new Volquartsen custom. I feel that it is perfectly suited to my expectations for that firearm and given my great experience with the Cronus, I have high expectations for the Ares.
In my time thus far with the Ares, it is living up to my expectations. The turrets are very good and nearly as good as the Cronus (very tactile and audible with a good feel). The glass is better than the competitor's (brand that starts with a V) scope that I owned for a limited time which was at a similar price / specification point. Further, the general handling feels comparable to other, next tier, scopes that I've owned and handled. This experience reflects the same thing that I experienced with the Cronus, the Athlon offerings simply punch above their weight and you get a scope that is a tier better than the price indicates.
I would certainly recommend this scope to a friend and in general I'm coming to expect great things from any Athlon product and thus would recommend the brand in general.
